Level 2 Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs
The Level 2 Understanding Working with People with Mental Health Needs qualification aims to raise awareness of the role of the mental health worker and the process and approaches involved in the care and support of those who experience mental ill-health.
Due to the programme content you must be working in an environment that involves working with individuals with Mental Health needs to be able to fully evidence the required learning outcomes as the course requires you to access organisational policies and procedures and to reflect on your work practice.
This course is currently being subsidised by the college and is, therefore, free of charge at present UNLESS you fail to complete it; in which case you will be liable to pay £85 to cover the cost of materials and administration plus any registration costs that may have been incurred.
The objective of this qualification is to give learners working in a health or social care context, an understanding of approaches to supporting those with mental health needs. It will also enable learners to progress to other qualifications in health care and social care.
The course is divided in to 5 units as follows:
Unit 01: Understand the role of the mental health worker
Unit 02: Mental health and mental health issues
Unit 03: Understand duty of care in adult health and social care
Unit 04: Approaches to care and management in mental health
Unit 05: Understanding change and support in relation to mental health
Although there are no formal entry requirements for this course, due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 1 or equivalent.
If you are between 19 and 23 yrs of age you must also have already achieved a full level 2 qualification ie the equivalent of 5 GCSE Grades A- C

In addition we recommend that you are currently working in the field of mental health in order to complete some of the activities required for the assessments.
This programme will take 8 weeks to complete and consists of 2 written assessments.
Learners are required to give written responses to questions provided with the learning materials.
We recommend that learners complete and submit their written assessments electronically.
You will be required to submit 2 assessments each taking 4 weeks to complete. The course is also available as an online programme.

Courses are only free to people who have lived in England for the past 3 yrs, are aged 19 years or over and are not currently accessing any other government funded training.
Please note there is a non-completion fee of £85 if you have to be withdrawn from the course.
