Level 2 Common Illnesses Affecting Children

This free distance learning Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Common Illnesses Affecting Children course aims to give knowledge of common childhood illnesses that can occur and how to support children and infants that have these illnesses.

It is important that babies and young children are in a safe and healthy environment regardless of whether they are ill or not. Sometimes a child or baby may need medical attention in an emergency if they have a common childhood illness and this course gives information on what actions should occur if certain illnesses are discovered in a child and how to recognise the symptoms of these.

On this course, you will learn units such as the safe and healthy environments for young children and babies, the policies and procedures, common illnesses and understanding health emergencies.

Recognising signs in common childhood illnesses is important to prevent further complications with babies and young children. Being able to recognise these signs and understand the actions to take should this occur can drastically improve the life of a baby and young child. The course aims to provide the actions to take, symptoms you should be aware of in young children and babies and how to provide a healthy safe environment for them to prevent certain illnesses from starting.

The following units are covered on the free distance learning Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Common Illnesses Affecting Children course:

  • Unit 1 -Principles of safe and healthy environments for babies and young children
  • Unit 2 – Policies and procedures relating to safe and healthy environments for babies and young children
  • Unit 3 – Knowledge of common childhood illnesses
  • Unit 4 – Understanding health emergencies and health conditions in early years settings

Due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 1 or equivalent. 

If you are between 19-23 years of age you must also have already achieved a full level 2 qualification (or higher) or 5 GCSE Grades A*-C/Grade 9-4.

We will require evidence of this in order to receive funding for you.

Each candidate is required to give written responses to questions, which will be submitted to a qualified script marker to assess. These responses can either be handwritten in the assessment booklets, typed using electronic templates, which are provided at induction, or typed using our fully online EQUAL platform. Candidates are issued with workbooks or online materials to assist with assessments.

You will be required to submit 3 assessments each taking 4 weeks to complete.

Upon completion, you will receive an electronic certificate, which will be sent to you via email. A paper certificate can be issued upon request.

This course is currently being subsidised by the college and is, therefore, free of charge at present UNLESS you fail to complete it; in which case you will be liable to pay £85 to cover the cost of materials.
