Level 2 Information, Advice or Guidance

Level 2 Information, Advice or Guidance

The Level 2 Information, Advice or Guidance qualification has been developed for learners working in this field to share good practice and build confidence in their ability to effectively fulfil their role as providers of advice and guidance.

This course is currently being subsidised by the college and is, therefore, free of charge at present UNLESS you fail to complete it; in which case you will be liable to pay £85 to cover the cost of materials and administration plus any registration costs that may have been incurred.

The qualification will help learners to develop an understanding of the requirements of the Information, Advice or Guidance practice and aid them in guiding those that they are supporting to make informed choices.

  • Unit 1: Developing interaction skills for information, advice or guidance
  • Unit 2: Information, advice or guidance in practice
  • Unit 3: Information, advice or guidance work with groups
  • Unit 4: Managing information
  • Unit 5: Signposting and referral — information, advice or guidance

This course is only available to learners over the age of 19, as recommended by the course specification. Due to the nature and course delivery of distance learning we require all applicants to hold a minimum of English Literacy Level 2 or equivalent.

If you are between 19 and 23 yrs of age you must also have already achieved a full level 2 qualification ie the equivalent of 5 GCSE Grades A- C

As part of achieving this qualification you will need to complete at least one detailed session plan as well as delivering the plan so it is strongly recommended that you only consider undertaking this course if you are, or have previously been, in a role that requires you to provide information and guidance or information and advice and can deliver a group session plan

If you are unsure of your level of literacy please read the attached instructions to undertake a literacy assessment on line. This will take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. Instructions are available here.

This course will take 20 weeks to complete and consists of 5 written assessments.

Each candidate is required to give written responses to an assessment booklet. This can be either handwritten in the booklet itself or completed using an electronic template of the booklet.

You will be required to submit 5 assessments each taking 4 weeks to complete.
